Yurok, Tolowa, Hupa, and Karuk tribal members sued the U.S. Forest service over plans to build a road between Gasquet and Orleans (G-O) through land sacred to native Californians. After losing at the U.S. Supreme Court, these G-O opponents advocated with the Forest Service to scrap the project. Federal legislation designating the area as part of the Siskiyou Wilderness area barred completion of the G-O Road. Courtesy of Heyday Institute
